University of Utah Information

The University of Utah (located in the USA) was originally established in 1850 as the University of Deseret, unfortunately it only survived for two years. Other schools were put into place by the Mormons and the university became fully established in 1894 and moved to its present location, a couple of miles East of Salt Lake City in the year 1900.

The University of Utah is well known for its sporting prowess and has hosted the olympic athletes when the winter olympics were hold at Salt lake city. It has a successful colligate sports program and has won NCAA and AIAW titles in many events.

Academically the university offers 76 majors and 55 minors at undergraduate level. At post graduate level 96 areas of study are offered. Utah is especially prominent in the fields of Computing and Biology. With much successful research being accomplished; In computing this includes being a member of the first packet switching network and members of faculty and students have gone on to found well known computer systems such as Netscape, Atari, Pixar and Adobe. In biology the university of Utah is especially strong in genealogy.

Some of the faculty and Alumni of the University of Utah include the Nobel Laureate Mario Capecchi, Henry Eyring, Henri Gouraud, John Warnock and Nolan Bushnell.
