University of Sherbrooke Information

The University of Sherbrooke (French:  Université de Sherbrooke), is a French-speaking university located in the province of Quebec, Canada. The institution offers the public the opportunity to benefit and gain from a worldwide recognized academic education. The institution is located in the southern part of Quebec, 220 km from Québec City, 150 km from Montréal and around 40km from the American border.  At the current date, the university accommodates more than 37,000 students wherein 9,000 of them are registered at the University of the Third Age. The Université de Sherbrooke has been receiving international students since the day it was founded and each year the numbers of students from other countries increases. There are more than 1600 foreign students from over 100 different countries currently attending the Université de Sherbrooke.

The Université de Sherbrooke is comprised of 6700 staff and employees, this includes over 2300 lecturers, and professors, and in addition there are many clinical professors at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The total number of employees includes approximately 10% of all the faculty members in Québec.

The universities located in Quebec are the only types of higher education available as the university system of North America is not composed of private higher education institutions or grandes écoles. The Canadian universities are known to be respected establishments and learners receive high quality preparation and recognized diplomas. Such institutions can be associated with the European societies of higher education (grandes écoles) for the quality of education, while maintaining affordable prices.

The University of Sherbrooke is comprised of over 30 buildings, wherein most are linked with the use of underground pedestrian tunnels networks. The campus brings together the university’s management offices and eight out of nine university’s faculties: Sports and Physical Education, Administration, Letters and Humanities, Engineering, Law, Education, Sciences, as well as Ethics, Theology and Philosophy.

The other buildings located in the Main Campus include the Multifunctional pavilion, the Georges-Cabana pavilion, two blocks of student housing, the Univestrie pavilion, the Student Services pavilion, the Cultural Centre and the Maurice-O'Bready theatre.
