St Andrews University Information

The university of St Andrews is located in Fife in Scotland; having been established at the beginning of the 15th century it is the oldest university in Scotland. The university is considered to be one of the best in the United Kingdom and does well in the university ranking surveys carried out by the british newspaper; it is ranked as the 5th best university by the times and the guardian, and the 7th best by by the Independent. St Andrews university is also loved by it's students, who rate it as one of the best places to study in the UK.

St Andrews university has four main faculties:

Faculty of Arts
Faculty of Divinity
Faculty of Medicine
Faculty of Science

Being one of the oldest universities in Scotland has enabled St. Andrews to build up an impressive list of alumni and faculty. These include the Nobel prize winners Alan MacDiarmid, Walter Haworth (Chemistry) and James Black (Medicine). Several members of royalty have studied at St. Andrews including King James II and Prince William. Other notable people include Edward Jenner (smallpox vaccine); John Napier (logs); Sir Chris Hoy (cycling); the poets Sir David Lindsay and William Dunbar; the historian Dominic Sandbrook; and the actress Siobhan Redmond.
