University of Regensburg Information
The University of Regensburg is a research university in the Bavaria region of Germany. It was founded on the 18th July 1962 and became Bavaria’s fourth university.
Though founded as recently as 1962, people had been trying to establish a university in Regensburg since the late fifteenth century, when the then Duke of Bavaria, Albrecht IV, petitioned to Pope Innocent VIII for the establishment of a university in the city.
There are a total of 12 faculties in the University: Faculty of Law; Faculty of Catholic Theology; Faculty of Business, Economics and Management Information Systems; Humanities I: Philosophy, Sports, and Art; Humanities II: Psychology and Pedagogy; Humanities III: Society, History, and Geography; Humanities IV: Languages and Literature; School of Medicine; Natural Sciences I: Mathematics; Natural Sciences II: Physics; Natural Sciences III: Biology, Preclinical Medicine; Natural Sciences IV: Chemistry and Pharmacy.
Some of the University’s most notable graduates include May Ayim, Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens, Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, Edmund Stoiber, and Elli Erl. Also, Pope Benedict IV taught in the University from 1969-1977.
