University of Marburg Information
Situated in the German city of the same name the university of Marburg was established in the early 16th century making it one of the earliest universities in Europe. Today the university has expanded to include a broad range of courses and is headed by its president Volker Nienhaus.
Over the years the university of Marburg has had a great strength in humanities, Natural sciences and medicine, in more recent times these strengths have been added to with leading edge research being taken out in nano and material sciences. Other major areas of study at the university include Philosophy, Psychology, Language technology, Pharmacy, Oriental studies and near Eastern studies.
The age of the university of Marburg means that many famous faculty and alumni have been associated with the establishment over the years, these include scientists such as Albrecht Kossel, Otto Heinrich Schindewolf, Alfred Wegener and Karl Ziegler. Another strength is humanities and people such as Rudolf Otto, Paul Tillich, Christian Wolff and Hermann Cohen have had a part in the history of Marburg university.
