Laval University Information
Located in the Canadian provence of Quebec Laval University was founded in the mid 17th century and was the first educational facility in Northern America to offer university study in the French language. The university has grown in size and nowadays caters to over thirty seven thousand students. Lave is currently overseen by the rector Denis Briere.
The university is a large university that offers study of over 350 subjects (these are largely taught in French); some of the major topic areas are in the following fields: Agriculture; Architecture; Dentistry; Education; Food sciences; Literature; Medicine; Music; Nursing; Pharmacy; Philosophy; Science; Social science; and Theology.
Being one of the oldest French speaking universities in French has enabled Lave university to build uo an impressive list of former faculty and alumni; these include people such as Niklaus Wirth, Marius Barbeau, Jean Chrétien, Louis Laurent and Brian Mulroney (prime ministers of Canada), Esther Delisle (author), and Louis-Honoré Fréchette (poet).
