The university of Göttingen is lovingly referred to as the Georgia Augusta, and was established in the year of 1734. It is a very successful university and has over 40 nobel prize winners associated with it, most of these were from before the second world war in a period known as the Göttingen Nobel prize wonder. Some of the prominent faculty and students associated with the university include Max Planck, Beno Gutenberg, Max Born, Felix Klein, the Brothers Grimm, Otto von Bismarck and Edmund Husserl amongst many.

The library of the University of Göttingen contains over 4.5 million volumes and 16,000 Journals spread over 143 specific libraries on campus. Perhaps the most famous holding of the university library is the Gutenberg Bible, which is a UNESCO world treasure item. It is planned to make this available to the public by digitizing the content.
