University of Ghent Information

The University of Ghent was established in 1817 by King William the first and is located in Ghent in the Flanders region of Belgium.

The university has 11 faculties enabling it to cover hundreds of subjects, the major areas of teaching are as follows: Science; Applied Sciences; Economics; Veterinary Medicine; Humanities; Psychology and Pedagogy; Bioengineering; Pharmaceutical Sciences; Politics and Social Sciences; Law; and Medicine.

As a long established and prominent university Gent has many famous faculty and alumni associated with it; these include the nobel prize winners Adolf von Baeyer, Corneille Heymans, Erwin Schrödinger, George de Hevesy and Corneille Heymans. Other notable people associated with the university of Ghent include Ferdinand Augustijn Snellaert; Peter Piot,Prudens van Duyse,Emile Waxweiler, and Etienne Vermeersch.
