University of Genoa Information

The university of Genoa is very old; it was officially created in 1471, but can can trace its roots back to as early as the 13th century, when many of the colleges in Genova that formed the university were independent degree granting colleges (specialising in Law and Theology). The university has grown immensely in size over the years and now offers education to around 40,000 students; this makes it one of the largest universities in Europe. Today the university at Genova is governed by the rector Gaetano Bignardi.

Genoa is split into eleven different faculties as follows:

Faculty of Architecture
Faculty of Arts and Philosophy
Faculty of Economics
Faculty of Education Science
Faculty of Engineering
Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures
Faculty of Law
Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Science
Faculty of Medicine and Surgery
Faculty of Pharmacology

Many famous people have walked through the gates of the university of Genoa over the years, some of the notable alumni include former presidents of Italy such as Sandro Pertini; the spaceman Franco Malerba; and the car businessman Paolo Fresco.
