University Erlangen Nuremberg Information

The university of Erlangen Nuremberg (FAD)is located in two different cities in the German state of Bayern. Two thirds of the students and nine of the eleven faculties are located in Erlangen, with the remainder being located in Nuremberg. The university was originally located in Bayreuth, but after one year relocated to premises in Erlangen, it was not until 1961 that colleges in Nuremberg became part of the FAU. Nowadays the university caters for nearly 26,000 students and a further 10,000 staff; these are watched over by the rector Karl-Dieter Grüske.

The university of Erlangen Nuremberg has five different faculties as follows:

Faculty of Philosophy and theology
Faculty of Law and business science faculty
Faculty of Medicine
Faculty of Science faculty
Faculty of Technology

Over the years the university of Erlangen has been associated with many famous alumni and faculty including the Nobel prize winner for chemistry Eduard Buchner. Even more renown is the physicists Georg Simon Ohm (Ohm's law) and Hans Geiger (Geiger counter). Others of note are Samuel Hahnemann (homeopathy) and the inventor of the MP3 Karl Heinz Brandenburg.
