Motto: Adspicit lucem in coelestis (Seeking light in the heavens )

The University of Copenhagen was founded in 1479 in the capital of Denmark. It is a public, and the most prestigious university in Denmark. Although the University is currently spread throughout the city it is planned to concentrate the buildings into three main campuses in the future using a model successfully implemented by Columbia University in the Manhatten. It is planned to create a new international research academy named after Niels Bohr (see below) in the fields of studies related to fields of theoretical physics.


University of Copenhagen facts

There are around 33,000 students at the University of Copenhagen. The Rector is Ralf Hemmingsen. It is a member of the European Universities association and the Links to Asia by Organizing Traineeship and Student Exchange . The university has many Nobel laureates amongst its alumni including Niels Bohr whose work helped to further our understanding of atomic structure and quantum mechanics; Niels Ryberg Finsen who gained his award in medicine and physiology for work on the treatment of diseases by light theraphy; Niels Kaj Jerne for the discovery of monoclonal antibodies; Jens Christian Skou for discovery of sodium and potasium ATPase enzymes.
