University of Bochum Information

The university of Bochum is located in the Ruhr valley region of Germany in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW); this German state also has many other respected universities such as the ones at Bonn and the university of Cologne. Bochum is a large university and caters for over 33,000 students and another 5,000 staff. It is a new Germany by German standards, having been established in the early nineteen sixties. Today the Ruhr university of Bochum is headed by the rector Professor Elmar Weiler.

The Ruhr university of Bochum has twenty different faculties, these are dedicated to the teaching of the following major subject areas:

Catholic Theology; Biology and Biotechnology; Chemistry and Biochemistry; Civil Engineering; East Asian Studies; Economics; Electronics and Information Technology; Geosciences; History; Law; Mathematics; Mechanical Engineering; Medicine; Philology; Philosophy, Education and Journalism; Physics and Astronomy; Protestant Theology; Psychology; Social Science; and Sports Science.

In all the university of Bochum offers study of around 150 degree and masters programs; unlike many other German universities Bochum grants degrees as opposed to the traditional German diplomas.
