University of Bari Information
University of Bari is a state-supported university in Bari, Italy. Founded in 1925, it is currently headed by its rector, Professor Corrado Petrocelli.
The university's foundation was due to a royal decree in 1923 which called for the creation of an institution of higher learning in the region after Italy's reunification. The university formally opened in January 1925 with its premiere faculty, the Faculty of Medicine, which was a result of the merging of the faculties of Midwifery and Pharmacy. Through the years, the university has continually acquired new faculties as well as build more learning centers in Taranto and Foggia.
Currently, the university has 12 Faculties: Agricultural Science, Economics, Pharmacy, Law, Foreign Languages and Literature, Arts and Philosophy, Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Medicine, Biotechnologies, Educational Science, Political Science, and Mathematics, Physics and Natural Science. University of Bari also has many specialization schools, which aim to equip students with the skills needed to advance in their chosen specialization. It also supports continuing education by offering 1st level masters degrees for postgraduate students, and 2nd level masters degrees for students who have finished its specialization schools. Most of the school's faculties also offer training and modules in connection with a student's chosen field.
The University of Bari has affiliations and investments in several research and academic centers like the Pugliese Academy of Sciences, Norman-Swabian Studies Center, Cimedoc, Puglia Center Network, Lusophone Studies Centre and the Center of Expertise for Environmental Education. Most of its research endeavors, which are mostly undertaken by doctorate students at the university, focus on the topics of Morbid Anatomy and Genetics, Human Anatomy and Histology, Cultural Goods and Language Sciences, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Medical Biochemistry and Medical Biology, Bioethics, Agricultural-Forestal and Environmental Biology and Chemistry, Plant Biology and Pathology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine and Public Medicine.
The University of Bari has several E.U. Programs which promote internationalization of the university. Under its Erasmus program, students who are done with their first year of university are given the opportunity to study at a foreign school for a period of 3 months to 1 year. The University's Lingua program aims to develop a better teaching method of European language. Students under the program are sent abroad to assist in the teaching of European language, usually in countries that don't have European languages as one of their primary languages.
