University of Antwerp Information

Although established in it present form as recently as 2003, the university of Antwerp can trace it's roots back as far as 1852. In its present gesture the university represents a coming together of three universities, these being the University Institution Antwerp (UIA), the State University Centre Antwerp (RUCA) and the University Faculties Saint Ignatius Antwerp (UFSIA). Today the university is governed by the rector Alain Verschoren.

There are seven faculties at the university of Antwerp:

Faculty of Applied Economics
Faculty of Arts and Philosophy
Faculty of Law
Faculty of Medicine
Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences
Faculty of Political and Social Sciences
Faculty of Sciences

Some of the famous faculty and Alumni who have passed through the gates of the three universities that made up the university of Antwerp include the biologists Christine Van Broeckhoven and Vincent Timmerman; philosophers Jan Leyers, Jan Huyghebaert; politicians Johan Vande Lanotte, Rudy Van Eysendeyk, Kris Peeters and Mieke Vogels; and the business people Wouter Blondé and Staf Van Reet.
