TU Dresden informatik

The Dresden university of technology is a public university placed amongst Germany’s oldest technical-academic institutions. Commonly named in German as the technische universität dresden, it is considered as the most extensive educational establishment in dresden, and saxony’s largest institution as well. It is also included among the top ten biggest universities in Germany. It is an affiliate of the tu9 group, a conglomerate of nine leading of technology institutes in the country.

The founding of TU Dresden dates back to 1828, when a saxon technical school was established to train the existing workforce in the fields of ship construction, mechanical engineering and mechanics. Its name was changed to the königlich-sächsisches polytechnikum (royal saxon polytechnic) in 1871. It was during this year that courses such as history and languages were first integrated into its curriculum. The name that it goes under now was adapted in 1961.

A highlight of its expansion was in 1990, when TU Dresden incorporated the forestry college in Tharandt. Several developments were further undertaken such as the conjunction of the faculty of transport science; Dresden college of engineering; and the medical faculty. In 1991, faculties of law and information technology were added, followed by the faculties of education and economics in 1993.

The TU Dresden showcases first class expertise in the fields of computer science, electrical engineering, engine construction, traffic logistics and photo optics. The courses TU Dresden offers particularly in economics, medicine, engineering, architecture, business administration and psychology are ranked the best in “wirtschaftswoche” (economics weekly), a German professional magazine. Likewise, the university is well reputed to have owned, among its products, a great number of industrialists especially engaged in bioscience business.

The Dresden University of Technology, in its effort to be more autonomous in decision making and to be independent from national assistance, has established an outlet in hanoi the capitol city of Vietnam, which offers a graduate program in mechatronics. TU Dresden has also set up links with top universities such as Georgetown university, Harvard medical school, Tongji university and Boston university.

The university has fourteen faculties, nearly all of which are housed south of the city on the main campus. The faculty of medicine however, is located East of the city near the river, and the college of of forestry is located in Tharandt.
