Guide to growing Synthus

Members of the Synthus genus are low growing hardy perennials that reach from 6 to 30cm in height; this makes them great for growing in rock gardens.

They often bloom twice a year, always in early spring, and sometimes in autumn.

When they bloom Synthus carry spikes of small white, purple, blue or pink flowers.

How to grow Synthus

It is best to grow Synthus from purchased plants or from divided plants that some one has been kind enough to give you. These plants should be spaced at about 10 to 15cm apart in the rock garden. The soil that Synthus grow in should be organic, rich and acidic; ideally it should also be gritty. Synthus loves a moist soil and does not like sunny conditions so grow in a shaded or at least partially shaded area.

Caring for Synthus

Synthus likes to grow in a moist to wet soil so ensure that they are kept well watered at all times. If you require more plants then propagate Synthus by division in the spring.
