Guide to growing Patrinia

Patrinia are hardy perennials that range in height from 20 to 60cm.

They bloom in the early months of spring with clustered tiny golden or white flowers.

The smaller varieties of Patrinia are ideal for use in the rock garden, whilst the larger ones are good for beds and borders.

How to grow Patrinia

If you plan to grow Patrinia outdoor from seeds then it is best to sow the seeds either before the last frost of spring or towards the end of autumn. Once sown lightly cover the Patrinia seeds. Patrinia is able to grow in sunny and lightly shaded conditions and has a preference for a soil that is light, moist and rich.

If first growing Patrinia seedlings in the greenhouse then start about two months in advance. The young seedlings can be put out into the garden either before the last frost of spring or in late autumn. It should take about 9 or 10 days for the Patrinia seeds to germinate at about 15 to 18 degrees centigrade. Once ready transplant the seedlings 15 to 30cm apart (small Patrinia species) or 30 to 45cm apart (larger varieties).

Caring for Patrinia

When growing Patrinia it is best to water regularly to ensure that the soil remains moist. If you require more plants and do not want to grow from seed then they can be propagated by division in the autumn.
