Norwegian University of Science and Technology Information

Although the Norwegian University of Science and Technology has only existed in its present form since 1996 when it was created through a merger of institutions it can trace it's roots back to the beginning of the 18th century. NTNU is located in Trondheim in Norway and has four major campuses Gløshaugen, Dragvoll, Øya, Tyholt. It is presently governed by its rector Torbjørn Digernes.

The university has seven faculties that are devoted to core subjects such as Art, engineering, humanities, marine technology, medicine, music, science, and social sciences. As the Norwegian university of Science and Technology has fifty three different departments it is able to offer a large range of subjects for its students to study. As the NTNU offers many masters course in English (36) it is an ideal university for people who would like to experience living in a Norwegian country but are not yet able to speak Norwegian.

If the early forms of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology are considered it is seen that many famous alumni and faculty have passed through its gates; including two Noble prize winners Lars Onsager (Chemistry) and Ivar Giaever (Physics). Other people of note with an association to the university include the electronic engineers Helmer Dahl, Vebjørn Tandberg, John Lervik, and Vegard Wollan; marine engineers Tor Olav Trøim and Gjert Wilhelmsen; and mechanical engineer graduates Anders Talleraas and Edgar Schieldrop.
