The North Carolina university system consists of 16 universities with the main campus for the state university being located at Raleigh, having been established as a land grant university in 1887. Nowadays it is also a Sea and Space grant university.
The North carolina state university has 66 departments and allows the study of 102 topic areas at the undergraduate level, 108 at the Masters level and 6o PhD topics. Some of the main colleges at the university include those related to Agriculture and Life Sciences;Education; Design; Physical and Mathematical Sciences; Engineering; Humanities; and Management. The university is blessed with an excellent library system and carries over 3.4 million volumes across its five libraries.
The university has a strong reputation for sport and competes intercollegiately at 24 different sports. The athletics at North Carolina state university is particularly strong and they have won many national titles.
