Keio University Information
Keio university is the oldest university in Japan and can trace its roots back as far as the year 1858. The university is located in the Minato part of Tokyo in Japan. Today the university caters for around 36,000 students and is governed by the chancellor Yuichiro Anzai. Keio has nearly 8,000 postgraduate students, just over half partake in Masters courses.
Being one of the most prestigious universities in Japan has enabled Keio to gain an enviable list of former faculty and alumni including politicians such as Junichiro Koizumi and Ryutaro Hashimoto, both of whom have been prime ministers of Japan. Other notable people include the chairman of the Tokyo Stock Exchange Taizo Nishimuro; the chairman of Tokyo broadcasting Yukio Sunahara; the actors Koide Keisuke, Nakata Atsuhiko and Hiro Mizushima; musicians Mariya Takeuchi and Asami Konno; the poet Sakutaro Hagiwara; and the architect Yoshio Taniguchi.
