Hokkaido University Information
Situated in Sapporo, Hokkaido University is one of the leading academic centres in Japan. It occupies an urban campus of about 3 square kilometers. Since its establishment as an agricultural college in 1876 Hokkaido has blossomed into a large university with 12 different faculties; these are as follows:
Agriculture; Dental Medicine; Economics; Education; Engineering; Fisheries Sciences; Law; Letters; Medicine; Pharmaceutical Sciences; Science; and Veterinary Medicine.
Additionally Hokkaido is well known for its graduate studies, and in addition to study in the faculties mentioned above studies can also be taken out in the fields of Economics and Business Administration; Education; Environmental Earth Science; Information Science and Technology; International Media and Communication;Life Sciences; and Public policy.
Hokkaido is a leading university in Japan and therefore has many famous faculty and alumni associated with it, these include the authors Arishima Takeo and Nitobe Inazo, the composer Akira Ifukube, the biologist Ryuzo Yanagimachi, and the renowned computer scientist Hiroshi Ishii.
