Flinders University Information

Flinders University, also known as the Flinders University of South Australia, is an Australian public university established in 1966. The university's name is derived from Matthew Flinders, a navigator who explored the coastline of South Australia in the 19th century. The university is known for its leading research facilities and its advocacy for innovation.

The university was among the many educational institutions created throughout Australia in the country's efforts expand its educational facilities to give more people access to university-level education. It opened its doors to the public on the 25th of March, 1966 with a staff of 90 serving 400 students spread out over the university's 10 initial courses.

Its main campus is built on the Adelaide plains on land formerly owned by the Kaurna people. Flinders University's partnership with the South Australian Government resulted in the opening of The Australian Science and Mathematics School in 2003.
